Bio

With a desire to perform all original material covering “things best left unsaid” to a whole lot of “soul searching”, troubadours Kay Miracle and Dave Curtis created “Kay & the Miracle Cure”.  With Kay’s extensive portfolio of compositions at the helm, the duo embraced their individual influences and together forged their own unique brand of roots music.  With a blend of traditional infused with a contemporary edge, Kay’s poetry driven lyrics come to life against a backdrop of heart-felt vocals, unique harmonies, and the rich warmth of acoustic strings.  The duo formed in the winter of 2013 and within months caught the eye and ear of Cayuga Records in Auburn NY.  Opting to record in a live setting to capture the essence of a live performance, Kay & the Kavemen released their first CD “Tracks from Memphis” in March of 2014 with guest guitarist Mike Sims playing lead and lending his vocals to the duo’s harmonies.  The CD was showcased during the 2014 SXSW festival in Austin, Texas at two singer/ songwriter showcases.  Continuing her service to the military, Kay performed her originals at the Hilo VA hospital in June 2014.  In 2015 Kay with the blessing of Dave Curtis renamed the band "Kay & the Miracle Cure" in which the original music could be performed in an old time medicine show environment blending traditional stories with an edgy melody.

Singer/ Songwriter KAY MIRACLE began her musical journey at the age of 12 thanks to her grandfather and mentor Claude Wood, an upright bass player who played in various Northwest bands and backed such artists as Hank Williams and Doris Day.  He bought Kay a bass and acoustic guitar on which she learned to play her first song “Your Cheatin’ Heart”.  As a teen, Kay and her little sister Kim traveled the West coast performing at state fairs, talent contests and local TV shows as the “Miracle Sisters”.   During a “Miss Washington” pageant, Kay won the “Best Talent” award for an original composition which landed her a college music scholarship.  After college Kay began touring the globe with the PACAF and USO military shows where she developing her early influences into a unique sound and new direction. While in Japan, she joined a Syracuse based band and eventually made her home in New York.  Armed with her musical roots, experience, and love of performing Kay captured the attention of like-minded musicians and became the lead singer, rhythm guitarist and songwriter for the alternative country band Reckless Drivin’.  The band took home a total of 5 SAMMY’s (awards honoring Syracuse’s best local artists) in which 2 were personally won by Kay as “Best Country Vocalist”.  Reckless released two CD’s, opened for national acts, and was nominated to represent the local music scene at the NXNE Music Festival in Toronto.  After a long successful run Kay decided to follow her dream and in 2013 “Kay & the Kavemen”, an all original American “Roots” band was born.  Immediately the band was offered a songwriter showcase during the 2014 SXSW showcase in Austin Texas and also a tour in Hawaii.  In 2015 Kay decided to utilize her birth name of Miracle, and changed the band's name to "Kay & the Miracle Cure".  In June 2015 she joined 15 independent singer songwriters on "The Last Honky Tonk Train to Clarksville" in which she performed in showcases in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio.

Bassist/Vocalist DAVE CURTIS joined Kay in April 1993 during their Reckless Drivin’ days, spending hours on her front porch recording their “works in progress”.   A writer in his own right, Dave’s attention to detail on the overall arrangement of the tune breathed life into the skeletal bones of Kay’s “musings”.  His extensive knowledge of music theory, love for all genres of music, and intuitive riffs brought a fresh perspective to the tunes melody.  Hailing from Lafayette, New York, Dave played in many local country bands including Reckless Drivin’, Colorado Rose, Lock, Stock, & Barrel and various gigs with his father Charlie Curtis.  He recorded on various studio sessions, including Austin Jimmy Murphy's highly acclaimed blues album, "The Last Blue Note".   Dave’s “no frills” bass lines add a solid backbone to the overall sound, lending depth and drive to the band’s sparse instrumentation.  His passion for the entire writing process from the initial “song idea” to the actual performance, makes him the foundation and steady heartbeat of the band.
