Bio

New York based Judy Kass performs original music that blends generous amounts of folk, jazz and blues.  Whether playing a grand piano or finger-stye guitar, Judy quickly draws in her audience with soulful vocals, no-nonsense lyrics and genre-bending harmonics.  Her songs cover the full gamut of mood and experience, ranging from the humorous disillusion of not-so-new relationships to surviving middle-school misery.  After a hiatus of "collecting stories", Judy returned full circle several years ago to her first love of acoustic folk performance.  Her debut album, Better Things, co-produced with two-time Kerrville Folk finalist Jay Mafale (The Ya-Yas), and released early 2014, is a musical illustration of sojourns along her journey, highlighting her skills as a multi-instrumentalist, singer, writer and arranger. Better Things has received notable airplay, appearing steadily on Roots Music Top 50 Folk Album and Song Charts for six months following its release, with her song "Take a Lesson" climbing to #5 on Roots Music's Top 50  Folk Chart and #1 on their Contemporary Folk Chart.    It was also included on the March 2014 Folk DJ Top Folk Album List and their list of Top Folk Albums for 2014.

Better Things was among Roots Music's Top 100 Folk Albums and Songs charts for 2014 with "Take a Lesson reaching #23. Two of the album's songs also appear on the Roots Music's list of Top 100 Contemporary Folk Songs of 2014 with "Take a Lesson" hitting #8.  She's currently recording her second album which will be released Summer, 2015.  Judy can be heard in a variety of local and regional venues as well as on the airwaves as Better Things gains national attention in the folk music arena.
