BIOGRAPHY                   JONAH WHALE

by Avion Zek

Jonah Whale joined his first band at age twelve as lead singer.     By age thirteen he had also taken up playing drums in a copy band.   Inspired by early progressive rock icons like Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, Jonah Whale started playing guitar and keyboards at age fifteen.    He was soon writing his own songs, eventually emerging with his own unmistakable style - strong hooks and powerful melodies - soaring over compelling rhythm tracks.

Jonah Whale is now an established artist with a six-album catalogue. The new release “American Made" is scheduled for release spring 2024.   Like all previous releases, “Dangerous Games,” “Underworld,” “Eccentricity,” "Belly of the Beast" "Mobius" "VI" it was written, recorded, mixed, and mastered in its entirety by solo artist Jonah Whale, at Adamsapple Records, his own home studio.

Jonah Whale music is well received by both critics and fans alike, and is said to "walk you through dark valleys and fly you over mountain tops.”

In 2013 Jonah Whale decided to form a band and perform live.   Formed in Pennsylvania, the band is made up of long-time friends.     Members are: Jonah Whale, Charlie Angel, Matt Kilmer, Mark Ficken.

           MORE about JONAH WHALE

Jonah Whale has called a lot of places home, including New York City and Los Angeles. His influences range form "Mozart to heavy metal", "I love hearing songs for the first time - it’s an adventure.   I love to hear things I haven’t heard before.”

Jonah Whale says he likes the Progressive Rock genre because it is “constantly pushes the boundaries”.  But he also says just being new or different isn't enough.  "I like innovative, unpredictable music, but I also want to be moved emotionally."

Jonah Whale lyrics tend to be insightful and full of imagery.   Subject matter ranges from gentle sensitive ballads like “The Traveler” and “Imaginary World” to darker characters like the pyromaniac in “Match Head” and the atheist on death row in “Holyman.”

Presently, Jonah continues to write, record, and perform live.  At some point in the future, he would like to take on a few more outside projects and establish himself as an independent producer.

Hello Everyone, “I would like you to know that for me, songwriting has always been a labor of passion.  As an artist, my most rewarding moments are when my music inspires others.  So, to all those who are inspired by these songs, I feel that we are at the very least, kindred spirits.  I thank you, and my love goes out to you.

Songwriting can be a very personal experience in many ways.  So, as it turns out, on every album there have been one or two songs that touched me a little more deeply than the rest.

On “Dangerous Games” it was “The Traveler” and “Faith;” on “Underworld it was “Holyman” and “One Little Thing.”  On the “Eccentricity” album it is “Imaginary World” and “I Would,” and on “Belly of the Beast” my favorites are “Dream” and “Welcome to the end of the World”, on Mobius "Your Heart You Must Follow" and "Let me Out". and on VI "She Moves Like the Wind" and "Tattoo".     I hope you enjoy, and thanks again.”

   Best Regards,

   Jonah Whale
