Bio

Raised by a single parent, Jamie Jay has known some hardships in life. After graduating from The Ohio State University in June 1997 with a Bachelor's in Journalism, she had trouble breaking into the Public Relations field due to lack of experience and connections.

So, to make a living, Jamie worked on and off as a temporary in various Administrative types of roles for companies as far reaching as utilities, banks, municipalities and exclusive airlines. Woven between temporary jobs were some permanent positions and layoffs.

The layoffs caused Jamie to re-evaluate her life objectives and goals. Before that time, she felt that she had followed a plan destined to fail. For one, Jamie was following someone else’s roadmap for success, not realizing that the world was about to redefine traditional career options and trends.

Secondly, even though she was praised for good work, she found that she was not satisfied with her life. Jamie wasn’t working in something that she was really passionate about, such as music. The problem was that she had never considered it as a “real” career option.

She loved to sing and had been doing it since her childhood. Before knowing what the word “practice” meant, Jamie would sing to test her limits. If something didn’t sound right to her, she would keep trying until it did. To her, she wasn’t practicing, but just having fun.

Forced by repeated unemployment to re-evaluate her life’s goals, Jamie took a chance and attended a $20-music conference held in her hometown in 2004. It was sponsored by Radio One.

Even though she didn’t know how to network and made no contacts, that one conference changed her life. Ever since, Jamie has been pursuing her passion in music. Whether reading up on the music industry, attending conferences, or making new contacts, Jamie makes herself well-informed on the music industry.

Jamie, while known by Jolaine, was honored by winning 1st Place R&B/Hip Hop Songwriter in the 10th Annual Great American Song Contest (GASC), an International songwriting competition sponsored by the Songwriter’s Resource Network. The winning song, “Nunya!”, was based upon Jolaine’s frustration about Identity Theft.

A little time has passed since Jamie has attempted to write songs and pursue a career in the music industry. She describes her life as interesting and strange. Being older and wiser, Jay feels that life is too short to stay of the game. Music is just apart of who she is and she can't turn it off.
