Heff

Zachary Patchen and Geoffrey Freeman are the co-founding members of Heff, a two-piece production duo based out of Palm Harbor, Florida.

Heff started when Zach and Geoff were 14 by taking their guitar playing abilities to local bars as different blues/classic rock acts. In 2015, Heff played for over 1000 people at the Dunedin Harvest Festival. A while after Heff disbanded playing covers and began writing music.

In 2017, with Zach as producer and Geoff as performer, Heff began pursuing their own style of music that incorporated Jazz, Hip-Hop, Lo-Fi, and Ambient Rock. With their new artistic approach and fresh originals, Heff bedroom-recorded their first project “Yellow”, released in March 2018. Heff released a single as a dedication to a friend Geoff lost to suicide called “Truth”, then after that, they finished their first full length album “New Color” which incorporated what Zach had learned from the “Yellow” and “Truth” recording and production process. In 2019 Heff LIVE, the duo's live project, began. It was an effort to play their songs to the east Florida scene at venues such as Blue Note selling tickets and merchandise.

There was trouble during the production of New Color, Geoff had been prescribed anti-anxiety medication to get through school and Zach became depressed due to childhood trauma. They are both now in the process of recovery. Geoff’s lyrics in New Color mainly focus on the thoughts he had during the process of being in an addicted mindset such as “Brimming” and “Come Over.” Zach’s lyrics talked about the mental crisis he was having such as “When Worlds Collide” as well as “Legend Orange Apricot”. Now that they are able to properly express themselves, Heff is working on new music to put out as well as other projects to further this production duo.
