"North Jersey Notes: Harvest Falls, BoundAlive, Downshallow and More!"

A few years back, I wrote about a band called Nuclear Harvest and from what I remember, I gave them a pretty lackluster review because I wasn’t too crazy about the singer, which is the case in most of my reviews. If your singer isn’t jaw-dropping amazing, why even bother, right? Anyway, the band broke up and its guitar players Anthony Gomes and Marc Bernuy put together a new project called Harvest Falls. Marc reached out to me on Facebook to give me a taste and after hearing a live version of the song “Brand New Day,” I was thirsting to hear more. This stuff was awesome and this time they nailed it with singer Ronnie Cinnella. This kid has “THE” rock voice. The band sounded dead on and tight for a live recording. If I had a label, I would sign these kids right now.

As I said earlier, after Nuclear Harvest broke up, Anthony and Marc demoed some new material and started shopping their new music at local shows to anyone who would listen. That’s how they landed drummer JR Pereira from the band Through The Flood and singer Ronnie Cinella from One Hundred Thousand. Great! They stole band members from other bands! After all, these guys would not have left their bands if Anthony and Marc were not onto something with their music, right? Rounding out the group is bassist Seitaro Nishiyama. Musically, the band chose to fuse modern hard rock with metal that delivers hardcore riffs yet keeps their style friendly to every listener with good melodic vocals. Harvest Falls like to brand themselves as a high-energy, intense hard rock band carrying a raw sound that will captivate fans and listeners throughout the New York and New Jersey music scene.

Throughout 2013, Harvest Falls got their name out by rocking clubs like Webster Hall, Knitting Factory and Fontana’s Bar in NYC, while rocking in their home state of New Jersey at clubs like Dingbatz, Mexicali Live, Jimmy’s Rock Cafe, Starland Ballroom, The Loop Lounge and The Blue Room, sharing the stage with bands like Taproot, Powerman 5000 and Eye Empire. Singer Ronnie Cinnella has also had the opportunity to work alongside producer/engineer Mike Ferretti, who is known for his work with Sevendust guitarist Clint Lowery, which is pretty funny because as I was listening to their song “Brand New Day,” I heard a strong Sevendust influence. I don’t see these guys being on the market too long. Jose Mangin will be picking this stuff up and putting it on Octane as soon as these boys put something on tape! NORTH JERSEY NOTES UPDATES:

So, a couple of weeks ago I mentioned that my bros from BoundAlive were working with bassist Jimmy Whip on their upcoming Def Jam release, Alive Again. Well, that didn’t work out and they are back to looking for a new bass player. If you think you have what it takes to be in BoundAlive, contact the band via their Facebook page and keep your ears peeled for some new BoundAlive material on facebook.com/boundalive.

Speaking of new music, anyone remember the band Downshallow? It’s Rob Ferreira from Dead Fish Handshake’s old band. Well, Rob just informed me that he and his former cohorts will be teaming up to record a brand new Downshallow song called “Psyche” for a late summer, early fall release. Unfortunately, there are band members on this coast and band members in California, so the recording process has become a bi-coastal affair. Keep an ear out for “Psyche” on facebook.com/downshallow. As for Dead Fish Handshake, the band’s in pre-production mode with Sevendust guitarist Clint Lowery on a few new songs, which the band hopes to record at the end of the month. In other words, there is new Dead Fish Handshake on the way! For more on Dead Fish Handshake, log onto deadfishhandshake.com.

And finally, continuing with new music, I was super-psyched to hear a clip from my old brothers in Sixty Miles Down, who recently posted a piece of their new song “Burned” on the band’s website. It’s really refreshing to hear some familiar voices and familiar guitar tones that you haven’t heard in a while. I’m glad to see my bros John Mosco and Roger Manzo still going at it. I also hope we get to see a live version of the band soon! For more on new music from Sixty Miles Down, log onto 60md.com.

That’s all for now! If your band is from North Jersey, and you want some exposure, send your press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140, Little Falls, NJ 07424, or you can email me at tim@theaquarian.com, where you can also let me know where you’re performing next! - Aquarian Weekly

Bio

Harvest Falls is a band that is inspired by passion, energy, nostalgia and the unpredictable.  Every song and lyric is stimulated by true life events that share a common universal emotion.  We are your story, we are you; we are Harvest Falls.

After the breakup of their original band Nuclear Harvest, both guitarists Anthony and Marc Burnuy continued writing new material. With a different approach from their prior band, their new material consisted more on the emotion of the music rather than just writing Radio focused songs. Odd time and complexity became more pronounced in their writing. Finally through friends, local shows and social media they met singer, Ron Cinnella and JR Pereira on Drums. In late 2013 the quartet initiated Harvest Falls.

Musically, the band chose to fuse modern hard rock with metal to deliver hard aggressive riffs yet keep their style friendly to every listener with good melodic vocals.  Harvest Falls has no set style nor do they label themselves as a Metal band.  They consider themselves as a high energy Rock and Roll band.

Ron states, “Don’t forfeit life, when nothing is set in stone!”

Lyrically, Ron believes in what he sings. In every song there’s a story and in every story there’s a truth. Harvest Falls see themselves as the voice of others. They feed from their audience. Every show has something unexpected. Every Show has something new. That’s what sets them aside from the rest. Their passion to relate and express memories shared by others.

Harvest Falls got their name out by rocking clubs like Arlene’s Grocery, Knitting Factory, Webster Hall and Irving Plaza in NYC.  In their home state of New Jersey they’ve rocked clubs like Dingbatz, Mexicali Live, Loop Lounge, Starland Ballroom, Clash Bar and The Blue Room.  They’ve also shared the stage with bands like Hoobastank, Taproot, Powerman 5000, Sepultura and Eye Empire.

Singer Ronnie Cinnella has also had the opportunity to work alongside producer/engineer Mike Ferretti, who is known for his work with Sevendust and he has also worked with guitarist and producer Clint Lowery from Sevendust.

New bassist Stephen Paczkowski is a vet of many well known NJ bands, from speed metal Rancid Decay to shoegaze heroes The Headspins.

Harvest Falls is currently wrapping up the highly anticipated full length after high demands from their demos.
