Gorilla Monsoon

Gorilla Monsoon is from the Twin Cities, Minnesota. We often draw comparisons to Jack Johnson, John Mayer, heck Michael Jackson even, and we are flattered by these comparisons. We actually come from a variety of backgrounds and influences, from R&B and hip hop, to punk, reggae, the Dead, and more. Our bassist Dan began a Thursday night open jam session that turned into Gorilla Monsoon. We were the ones that kept showing up every week basically. We picked the name pretty randomly, but Gorilla Monsoon is the name of a beloved Professional Wrestler from MN, our home state. The album formed partly when Ryan's (singer) son's mother passed away (during the making of this album), so mixed in with the funky stuff are some very heavy numbers such as Spiderwebs and Condemnation, and Dream Within a Dream. The songs carry a lot of pain in them, as well as a lot of hope. The result is a special album of very pure songs that we simply let the creative process develop. We didn't intentionally write any of them. Sometimes the best things happen just that way.
