Bio
Girsa is five young women from the Irish heart of Rockland County, NY, who have captured the hearts of audiences everywhere with their melodious voices, electrifying musicianship and witty banter. Their energetic and enthusiastic performances of traditional Irish music, song and dance have been met with outstanding acclaim. Maeve, Blaithin, Bernadette, Pamela and Emily bring a creative mix of fiddle, accordion, tin whistle, bodhran, guitar and piano to their shows. To round off their musical expertise, 2 of the girls also sing and one dances. Lately, Girsa has added a buachaill (boy!) to their ensemble. Sean Tierney, from Yonkers, New York, has joined Girsa on the flute, uilleann pipes, and tin whistle. He is also a national Irish dancing champion! The members' individual instrumental and vocal excellence combine to create a powerful force that has broken into the forefront of Irish music in the US.
8 years in the making, Girsa (which means young girls in Irish), is a fusion of the traditional music of Ireland and modern folk music. They have performed at some of the largest Irish Music festivals in the US, including the Milwaukee, Dublin, and Kansas City Irish Fests. They have also traveled to perform in the entire northeast plus California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, West Virginia, Texas, and Wisconsin. They can't wait to travel even further in the future!
