"FREYA: Paragon Of The Crucible"

Fronted by Karl Buechner, (EARTH CRISIS, PATH OF RESISTANCE), Syracuse, NY’s FREYA has been around for ten years. They have produced three full length albums re-imagining classic thrash, and death metal, while infusing dense melodies throughout. The new record features a guest solo on the track “Serpentine” by Paul Waggoner (BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME).

“In The Span of Seconds” has a great opening riff and hits you right away with some fast-paced double picking leading into great double-bass pounding that sets off the album to a great start. The album is a behemoth of non-stop riffs, destructive bass, gruff vocals and devastating drumming that it just demands to be played loud. The songs come at you like a steamroller, running over top of you and flattening everything in their path. There is melody on the album, like the great track “Through The Flames,” but the intensity of the album is what really sticks with you and keeps you coming back for more.

An album that just screams at your soul and wants to rip your ears off of your head and it needs to be a part of your record collection today. Play this one loud and often, make your neighbors hate you just a bit more than they already do. - Altered Frequencies

"Freya Making Of Lyrics"

e and Lane have talked about Freya a few times and I am proud to present to you a making of video for the bands new album Paragon Of The Crucible, which will be released soon. This video specifically focuses on vocalist Karl Buechner (Earth Crisis) and his lyrical themes on the album. I like hearing what vocalists have to say about the process for which they come up with lyrics, being a vocalist myself and Karl is a legend in the hardcore community, so it’s coming from a credible source. You can check out the video after the jump. Let the brilliance ensue! - American Aftermath

"VIsual Violence: Freya's Brendon FLynn"

This morning Decibel is pleased to exclusively premiere this video interview with Freya guitarist/visual artist Brendon Flynn in which he discusses the intricate, elegant artwork he created for the band's most diverse and intriguing offering yet, Paragon of the Crucible: - Decibel Magazine (Online)

"FREYA: 'Colossus' Video Released"

"Colossus", the brand new video from FREYA, the Syracuse, New York-based band fronted by Karl Buechner (EARTH CRISIS, PATH OF RESISTANCE), can be seen below. The song comes off FREYA's new album, "Paragon Of The Crucible", which was released on November 5 by Holy Mountain Music in America and Deadlight Entertaiment internationally. The cover artwork for the CD was conceived by guitarist Brendon Flynn and can be seen below.

Flynn told Terrorizer magazine about the "Colossus" track: "The song 'Colossus' is a gateway to the story of the album; a mythology created by people in the future to explain the cataclysmic end of the civilization that preceded theirs."

Another song from the CD, "Serpentine", features a guest solo by Paul Waggoner of BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME.

Commented Paul: "I was truly honored to be asked to be a part of this record, and the 'Serpentine' track specifically. I have great respect for the FREYA guys and their musicianship, and it was a real privilege to be able to add my little touch with a guitar solo. Ultimately, this song is a balance of heavy, aggressive riffing and emotive, driving melodies. So it was my goal to encapsulate the overall vibe of tune by creating a part that added some contrast, but one that was still complementary to the music and vocals."

FREYA has been crushing it out for more than ten years. They released three full-length albums and a split with Victory Records. The follow-up to 2010's "All Hail The End" was recorded with Jason "Jocko" Randall at Moresound Studio in Syracuse New York. Delving deep and giving a unique re-imagining to classic thrash and death metal, FREYA builds an epic post-apocalyptic wasteland where enormous beasts have destroyed the Earth and left man to create myths to explain the scarred world around them. On top of the destructive riffing, melodic and more progressive textures have been added to create an intense and vibrant setting.

FREYA is:

Karl Buechner (vocals)
Brendon Flynn (guitar)
Thom Turner (guitar)
Joseph Murphy (drums)
Brett Walts (bass)

"Freya 'Paragon of the Crucible' album stream"

yracuse, NY metal outfit Freya have been together for more than ten years now. And yes, they are partly known for being led by Earth Crisis frontman Karl Buechner, but they've had a viable music career in their own right, releasing three albums with Victory Records.

On November 5th the band will release their fourth album, titled Paragon of the Crucible, via Holy Mountain Music/Deadlight Entertainment.

When they debuted one of the outing's song last month, Terrorizer described Freya's sound as "typified by huge, chunky riffs, liberal splashes of aggression and subtle hints of melody." We're inclined to agree. But don't take our word for it; stream the whole album right now below! - Lambgoat (Online)

Bio

With over 10 years going strong, FREYA branches out with it's most captivating and mysterious album to date.  Featuring the drumming of Dirk Verbeuren of Soilwork fame, this new set of songs seeks to tell the true history behind the worlds most famous tales.  Weaving lush soundscapes interjected with crushing and lightning fast riffing.   Coupled with varied vocal attack, Freya seeks to explore unknown ground!

FREYA is no stranger to the masses. In 2003, the band released As The Last Light Drains, an album blending melody and crushing heaviness. They were interviewed on Headbangers Ball and their video to the title track single was in rotation for months. They also released a split recording with label mates The Hoods in 2004. An inspired Peta2 made a video for the anti vivisection anthem from the release entitled "Struggle To Survive" which was featured on their Save 99 DVD compilation, introducing them to over 100,000 fans.

In 2007, FREYA released Lift The Curse. According to Alternative Press, it ís the kind of music that can start prison riots. The album received praise in a multitude of press sources with the understanding that the record was one of the most powerful and captivating releases of that year. Lift The Curse debuted as the second most added album on college metal radio. The album ís infectiously heavy single "Suffer Not One" received rotation for months on Music Choice, XM, and Sirius radios.

In October of 2009, the band offered "All Hail The End". A megalithic statement in the new direction of Freya. Making a definitive statement in the style and sound of the band, they drew from new influences like Katatonia, Bolt Thrower, Morbid Angel and Testament. Featuring Buechner's fantastic and devastating lyrics and delivery. This new sound IS Freya.  This marked the end of Freya's partnership with Victory Records and the begging of a new chapter.

2012 saw the release of the newest record "Paragon of the Crucible". These are songs that take you on a journey through a wasteland of melted glass and ruined cities of a post apocalyptic world.  Continuing in the dark and textured style begun in "All Hail the End", Paragon coupled all the crushing riffage with new melodic explorations to tell epic tales in every song and the whole album.  Topped off by a guest solo by Paul Waggoner of Between the Buried and Me on the track "Serpentine".  Freya partnered with French label Deadlight Entertainment and Holy Mountain Printing in the US for release.

Now Freya has finished production on their new album tentatively titled GRIM.  With the contributions of Dirk Verburen on drums, this new album goes farther than anything Freya has done before.  They have Infused black, thrash and death metal inspiration with soaring anthemic choruses.  Using the iconic scream of front man Karl Buechner in conjunction with dramatic clean vocals and thick arrangements,  Grim is a true Magnum Opus.
