Bio

Hidden away in a secluded valley metropolis, Forsythia has brushed off the sand natural to their climate bringing a modern and progressive metal experience pounding from the heart of the Northwest. Forsythia's sophmore release Sonder out nov 2, expands upon the sound of their previous debut album Aversions. Familiar song structures, spacious ambiance, and dynamic rhythm sections lends the listener a pleasant metal experience. "My inspiration for this album was the concept of Sonder from the Dictinary of Obscure Sorrows. I wanted to highlight my insights and observations of people interacting in everyday life. Sometimes inquisitive and sometimes apathetic towards the human condition." Describes Russel. The sophomore release will also be released instrumentally.

Forsythia formed in 2011 when Cody Nelson and Olas Gardner found they had mutual interest in progressive metal. They spent 2010 pent up in bedrooms with Cubase and their guitars. “We grew up around each other, even took music theory in high school together. But it wasn't until years later when we ended up hanging around a 3rd party friend a lot that we really connected. Cody showed me this song he had written in a DAW (digital audio workstation) with midi instruments. It was at that moment I knew we were onto something big” says Olas.

On May 17 they released their first EP, Aversions. After release, the band received positive feedback that illustrates it’s unique but solid style: "I'm not usually into this kind of stuff that much but [Forsythia] makes it interesting. Really cool atmospheres and melodic sense. The rhythms aren't at all predictable either which is really nice. Great job all round" - Tom Winspear (Winspear Picks UK) Even the very discretionary ears over at “I Probably Hate Your Band” agreed:"I’m very glad to report that this is limited in the open string abuse, and heavy on elements that set it apart from the herd of mediocre Deathcore fodder." -Thrillhouse

After cycling through various musicians and carving out their own sound, Forsythia found its perfect lineup in early 2015. With Zack Swinney on drums and Dylan Moore taking over bass. Andrew Korn became the elusive 3rd guitarist, and Russel Eck took the helm as vocalist. "The lineup changes  were exactly what we needed to progress as musicians and find what was really essential to create a solid foundation of like-minded musicians." remarks Cody. Forsythia sets their sites to achieving a few humble goals. Dialing in their live sound, with hopes of  taking on more local gigs. Plans on widening their online portfolio with various video project ideas. But not least, looking for inspiration in life and continuing their treasured pastime of discovering new melodies in their home studios.
