"North Jersey Notes: Fever Vein, She Said Fire, Charetta and More!"

I was recently contacted by Fever Vein singer Mykill Vittoria to check out his band. Wondering where I’ve heard that name before, it turns out Mykill is the former lead singer of my boys Endall! So I had to check these guys out, especially if they were from my neck of the woods in North Jersey. After receiving the band’s EPK that Mykill sent me, I listened to the tracks “Screams Of The Insane,” “Throw Me Astray” and “I Am Your God,” and I thought the music was amazing! Mykill’s voice was perfect for these songs. I mean, these guys definitely didn’t reinvent the wheel, but they absolutely rolled with the wheel that was already invented. This was hard rock at its finest.

According to their bio, Fever Vein formed in 2009 and was put together by guitarist John Fodi and drummer Louis Gallo. The band wasted no time and quickly wrote a few songs and headed into the studio to record their first five-track demo. The boys would sharpen their skills by playing live and performing at various venues in the Tri-State Area. In late 2010, some internal issues forced the departure of their bass player and singer. In August 2011, they would find singer Mykill Vittoria. His stage presence and vocal ability immediately enhanced the sound of Fever Vein. Later that year, their lineup was finalized with the addition of bassist Sean O’Donnell.

Since O’Donnell joined, Fever Vein has pounded the pavement and has been playing every venue that would have them. According to Mykill, they’re currently writing new material for an upcoming CD. They recently released their first single, “Screams Of The Insane,” and are working on a video for it. You can catch Fever Vein live at Dingbatz on Thursday, Oct. 25, as part of Jose Mangin’s Hard Attack Thursday’s at the club! "“It is a madman writing in a insane man's head.”"

New Jersey based band Fever Vein have a great new release for you to hear. I really dig this band and have for some time now. I can honestly say that they have a style all their own and they are not stepping into a arena where they have to fight to be something they are not. Lord Mykill's vocals are top notch on the new release and I can say they are a hell of a lot better then recordings from the past I have heard. Not saying they were bad, just that you can hear a growth since then. Lyrically, it is well written. It is a madman writing in a insane man's head. That is a compliment, by the way, because some of the smartest and most talented people were off their rocker a bit. You can hear a lot of truth to what is being presented to the listener. You can feel a side of Lord Mykill that has a deep emotional scar to things that has affected his life. But not only do you hear from Lord Mykills emotions, but also other members of the family outside of the band. Fever Vein also uses writings from girlfriends and wives. That is almost unheard of. I had the pleasure to sit and talk with Lord Mykill for a bit and ask him some things about this band and the new album.

TMS - Where does Fever Vein start, and how long has the band been around?

LMK – The beginnings of the band started with Lou and John. They are life long friends and they have been musical partners for years. Fever Vein as a band has been around since 2009.

TMS – Who all is in the band and what roles do they play from instruments to writing?

LMK – There is John Fodi on guitar and Louis Gallo on the drums and of course myself on vocals. As far as what roles are in the band, we all are involved in all the music and we all make decisions together. We all write lyrics and the music. Not only are lyrics written from the band but John's girlfriend has written a song and my wife Janna has written 3 songs for us.

TMS – Really? So not only does the band write but you are cool and let others have a input as well?

LMK – Yes, we like to keep it in the family.

TMS – That is a good thing. Usually it is one guy in charge kind of a thing I see any more, or a leader that wants to make all the calls. I have heard that filling in on the bass is a man many of us know, Mr. Mike Lepond. How was it working with him and having him sit in on the recording seasions?

LMK – Mike is a machine, and it was such a pleasure to work with. We are performing with him next Friday the 13th

TMS – Where at?

LMK – 10th Street Live, 104 North 10th Street Kenilworth, NJ 07033

TMS – So, what songs made the album from outside sources?

LMK – There are 2 on this CD. "The Fall of Innocence" and " Hollow". Both are poems written by my wife Janna.

TMS – I think it is very cool you guys are open to letting others be involved in the writing. Not that it is unheard of, but not usually do you hear about wives and girlfriends supplying songs to the band.

LMK – Sometimes you can't always have the right vision for a song. Sometimes others can add something you may have missed.

TMS – How is that?

LMK – There was a night during a writing session where I was mumbling words and had a bit of a block. John's girlfriend heard something and asked for some paper and ran with it and she had a new song in 10 mins.

TMS – What song was that? Did she take what she heard from you and allow that to channel through herself?

LMK – It's a song called "My Angry Soul" it was written after the recording, and yes she did.

TMS – Tell me about the time involved with this album. I have to say, the recording was very good and also a step up from what I have heard from you guys before.

LMK – We have learned a lot from our past experiences. We wanted to take our time and do it right. Out of everything I've ever recorded I am most proud of this album.

TMS – Did you guys see a growth in the band during this time or do you think it was always there just that it had not surfaced all the way?

LMK - I've seen a major growth with this band. Especially with myself.

TMS – I heard a new you in this album, like a rebirth of the vocals. What did you see come from these sessions in the studio and what did you learn about you're craft?

LMK – I owe everything to the guys, when it comes to my vocals. Especially Louie, he has such a great ear for the music. He hears the potential in my vocals and helped me find my voice. As far as the studio, this time around was a joy for me. I was very comfortable and relaxed unlike in other situations. One thing I have learned is never put something on a CD that you are not happy with.

TMS – What do you mean, like other situations? I can also understand having past regrets, it will always come back to bite you in the ass.

LMK – Past recordings with Fever Vein have been a bit painful for me in the studio. I always put way to much pressure on myself when I sing. I always want the best. There's this thing the guys and I call "Red Light Syndrome". Basically when the red ight is on I would freeze up or was very loose and uncontrolled with my vocals. This time around our producer and the guys made me feel right at home.

TMS – Very nice. Where do you see this new album going and what can we expect from Fever Vein in the future?

LMK – What the band and I are really hoping to see with this CD, is for it to really take off. We have huge ideas that we would love to see come to fruition. We would love to "go across the pond" as they say, and go to Europe. As far as the future for this band, we are already working on new music and will continue to push ourselves musically. There are no limits for this band.

TMS – Nice. I have to ask, as a vocalist, who are the people that inspired you to get behind a mic?

LMK – That's a funny thing. I started off as a failed guitar player. You know a bass player. lol It was singers like Ronnie James Dio. The man's voice can invoke feeling when you listen to him. Freddy Mercury was and still is the true commander of the stage. These are the 2 singers that made me want to get behind a mic.

TMS – I like that. A bass player. lol

TMS – I know you as MyKill and I know there is another side to you, but as Lord MyKill when you hit the stage I notice that you like to have some theatrics to yourself, face paining, a mask, just some kind of treat for the crowd. Why is that?

LMK – I was a BIG Kiss fan as a kid. I loved seeing the theatrical side of the music. Like Alice Cooper. I was a big horror movie fan. It's always been in my mind to make sure when you see Fever Vein live on stage, you not only sonicly stimulated but also visually as well.

TMS – So, with that said, what is your dream show for Fever Vein? What would we see and when are we going to see it?

LMK – My dream show, that is easy. I want Fever Vein to play The Wacken Open Air Festival. I could die a happy man after that. It is just that European mentality when it comes to music. They love it no matter the genre. Definitely want to go play that fest in Germany. Would also love to play with bands like Mastodon, Opeth, Sancturay and so many more.

TMS – Nice, make sure you take me as a roadie, lol

LMK – You got it bro.

TMS – I want to thank you for this time and allowing www.thatmetalstation.com to have this interview. Any last words to the readers and the local bands?

LMK – Last words? The only thing I can tell the readers is to please support local music. All the bands I've been in contact with and have played with are so hungry and put their souls into their music. Scott, it has been a pleasure my man.

TMS – Thank you MyKill. I love the band and the new album. Anything we can do for you just let us know.

LMK – Oh and by the way, we will be giving out CD's for free at the show this Friday. So if you are in the area stop by and see a killer show and grab a CD.

We want to thank Lord Mykill for his time and also for the love of the music. If you are in NJ or close by keep and eye out for this band and go see them live.

You can stream the entire album here.

Bio

Fever Vein is made up or four individuals with a passion, and love for music. From heavy metal to
progressive music, they intertwine various styles to create their own unique sound. Further enhancing
their sound is the fact that each member is a strong individual in his own right. Each one of them has
his own personality, his own viewpoint, his own quirks, and his own demons...

A Brief Hstory

Founded in 2009 by guitarist John Fodi, and drummer Louis Gallo, Fever Vein quickly went into the
studio, and recorded a five song demo. Putting their music on the web, and getting airplay on internet
radio, they then went straight out to the venues, honing their skills as a live band. In late 2010, various
issues led to a personell change. In August of 2011, They auditioned Mykill Vitorria, a seasoned
vocalist with a strong range, and an energetic presence that would greatly enhance Fever Vein's
sound altogether. Again, they hit the road, and went into the studio, further re-inventing themselves.
In late 2011, Further issues prompted Fever Vein to replace another original member. In December
2011, They auditioned bassist Sean O'Donnell, a veteran of the Metal/Hardcore scene. The sound of
the band has changed since then, but the music has not...

Fever Vein have been on Braingell Radio,DarkGift Radio,Total Metal Radio, and are featured on www.metalmansion.com. Recently,Fever Vein has finished its brand new EP called "This Audio Plague" which features Mike LePond of Symphony X on bass. Plus the addition of a second guitarist Mike Fodi.

As of 2017, the band has become a power trio and more focused on our music.
