New York-based singer EVVY recently came out with her debut single “Haze,” and now she’s back with a new track called “Got Me Movin’.” Like her previous effort, “Got Me Movin’” is a idiosyncratic electro-pop song, but this time around she’s a bit more upbeat and danceable. Produced by Mickey Valen, the piano and synth driven track is bolstered by hip-hop drums and touches of guitars to ensure that “Got Me Movin’” doesn’t sound like every other synth pop song you’ve heard. EVVY’s pop vocals shine through the chorus with confidence and elegance for her empowering lyrics and undeniably memorable hook.

Off the back of just listening to the freshly released new track “Got Me Movin’” all pointers are towards the positive with regard to New York pop newcomer Evvy.

One other point of notice which added to the intrigue of listening out to this new artist came from the tip-off that Evvy has been collaboratively working with NY producer Mickey Valen, who I recently became aware of through Noosa another of our recently featured dazzingly good Emerging Artists.

Joined by fellow NY producer (Chris Wallitisch) better known as The King, the trio present “Got Me Movin’” an upbeat, synth soaked and fluttery tune.

There is much we can detect from this especially melodic pop offering, ace production, dreamily honeyed vocals, a peppering of soul and indie pop direction which shoot up infectiously together in a very promising manner to deliver a genuinely, very good listening experience.

Armed with the knowledge that Evvy’s entire upcoming debut album has also been overseen by the production team of Mickey Valen and The King, has us most looking forward to hearing more from what appears thus far to be, one of our new for the win dream-team of up-and-coming synth-pop makers. -

We’ve all been there. We’ve all been locked into something that was spiraling out of control, yet we were so blinded by the phenomenon that we were experiencing that we couldn’t let go. Those of you who are nodding, know exactly what I’m talking about. Those of you who are questioning what I just said are so deep in it, you can’t even realize.

Philosophy aside, “Haze” is a poetic journey through the aforementioned experience that so many of us have gone through vividly. Coming by way of NY based indie artist, EVVY, this tune is not only the debut single off of her upcoming EP, (which was created in just five weeks), but it’s also her first song under this moniker. Ever.

Jumping in on this project is a brand new production duo. TMN favorite Mickey Valen (Noosa, AYER) and Chris Wallitsch, who are now known as Mickey Valen & The King, worked with EVVY to dial up something dreamy, emotional and gripping, digging its nails deep under your skin. With EVVY’s sultry, lovelorne lyrics and Valen’s string scoring and drum samples, we’re left with a super charged song that soars with gorgeous piano melodies and larger-than-life tribal drums.

While we’re overwhelmingly excited to bring you this premiere today, we’re admittedly already looking forward to hearing the rest of her EP, which is due out in June of this year. Make sure you keep an eye out for it by following EVVY on facebook.

If you’re a fan of female vocalist-led electronic-pop, the influx of new artists meeting the specificiations that we’ve been posting recently has probably been a bit overwhelming. We can definitely sympathize, but sometimes you just have to suck it up and stuff more acts into your short-term memory. When you’ve the likes of NYC-based EVVY hitting your ears, you don’t have a choice; you’ve got to make space for her sound (and once you listen to “Haze”, you’ll agree wholeheartedly). Production from Mickey Valen allows EVVY’s vocals to glide alongside the seasoned pop sound the former has become known for (check out his work with AYER HERE, and his work with Noosa HERE), and almost instantaneously on the effort, you’ll realize that the combination is one meant to have happened. “Haze” happens to be EVVY’s debut offering, but within its scope, we find her potential clearly laid out for us. The yet-to-be-identified vocalist has apparently already written her debut album, so definitely look for her to release more material from it soon. - Chad Hillard
