"A$trokid - Outer Space (interview)"

HHO: Introduce yourself to the fans

A$trokid: What’s going on y’all I’m A$trokid.

HHO: How did your artist name come about?

A$trokid: It was actually in the studio when I was recording my track ‘Astrokid’ when a couple interns came in and started calling me by the name A$trokid. When I left the booth and walked back into the studio room we had a long discussion about it, later on that night I thought about it and decided it fits my personality.

HHO: Where are you from?

A$trokid: I was born and raised in New York but I play pretty close to my roots which are the Caribbean Islands.

HHO: Who were your musical influences growing up?

A$trokid: Growing up I did listen to a lot of Rock and Roll, that’s where I got my loud personality from and the desire to be a rockstar. Guns N’ Roses and Aerosmith are some of the Rock and Roll influences I had in my life. Crossing over into Hip Hop I listened to a lot of Meek Mill, Big L and Nas. They were the ones who influenced me the most.

HHO: What hip-hop albums did you grow up listening to?

A$trokid: 1999 by Joey Bada$$, Illmatic by Nas, Dream Chasers 2 by Meek Mill.

HHO: What is the current single/project that you are promoting?

A$trokid: I’m currently promoting my single ‘Astrokid’ with a new track titled ‘Energy’ soon to be released within the next couple of weeks.

HHO: How did the record come about?

A$trokid: When I heard the beat for ‘Astrokid’ in August I knew I wanted to make a track to the instrumental but I couldn’t figure out how. Eventually I decided to start writing to the track at the end of September in 2019. With my unreleased track ‘Energy’ I was actually outside the apartment complex in Wyandanch with two of my closest friends, they were hot boxing my whip free styling to random beats when I stumbled onto this beat they both said that it was wack but when you know you know, eventually that turned into the beat for my newest single.

HHO: What would be your dream collaboration with any rapper or producer?

A$trokid: My dream collaboration would have to be A$ap Rocky and Young Thugs engineer Alex Tumay.

HHO: Are you currently touring or have any upcoming shows?

A$trokid: I actually just had a sold out performance at the West End Lounge on January 24th. I have 8 pending gigs but none are confirmed.

HHO: How is the response from your fans & djs been?

A$trokid: The response from my fans have been extremely positive especially with the recent change in my sound.

HHO: What artists do you listen to the most?

A$trokid: The artists I listen to the most would have to be Travis Scott, A$ap Rocky, Lil Uzi Vert, 50 Cent and Meek Mill.

HHO: What are your plans for 2020? What are you doing that others are not?

A$trokid: It seems like I’m already taking steps in the right direction, but for 2020 I’m applying more pressure to record more tracks and shoot for videos and eventually end up on the Youtube channels World Star Hip Hop and Elevator.

HHO: How can your fans reach you?

A$trokid: They can reach me on Instagram @whoisastrokid and twitter @badwood3

HHO: Any last words or shout outs?

A$trokid: Shout out My day One Bros Caesar and Kendel for supporting me keeping it real and never being a yes men, shout out my engineer Fleece he’s one of the main creatives in my music career, Shout out to my block for making me into the person I am today, And a special shout out to my shawdy for really being my stone my foundation and really always motivating me to keep pushing forward. - Hip Hop Overload
