Amy's Not Breathing

I obtained permission to reprint the following article by local musician and heavy metal fan Miquel Yanez. I will say that I was not able to show up for the opening bands and I hope to catch The Realm Divided and more of Holden. There is something I would like to add about Amy’s Not Breathing. These guys were simply outstanding!! The guest vocalists picked up the show as it was scripted. Also, local bands you can learn a thing from these guys along with To Slay Apollo and All Falls Down (I saw these bands so if your name isn’t here don’t be offended). You can tell THEY LOVE THE MUSIC. The vocalists are energetic (crowd participation included), all musicians jump around and headbang (well, Corbin, you could act just a little more metal on stage, bro), and the drummers are super animated. All this turns into a great stage presence and brings out crowds and makes more fans. Check out the photo gallery and video of All Falls Down below.

These New Mexico boys learned something about Lubbock last night — once you are a band we support, our support can be interactive. Due to transportation issues, their singer was unable to make it. I’m sure they were thinking, “How can we go on without our singer?” Don’t worry boys. You’re in Dirt City. Problem solved. Members from most of the bands on the bill took turns freestyle singing to this bands kick-ass music to create what was, for me, the highlight of the night. To see the lengths my fellow musicians were willing to go to ensure that everyone had a successful gig, was, well, downright beautiful. I caught these guys a couple of weeks ago before I was aware of the Dirt City Rock blog with their usual front man. And so did Katie. For a report on what this band normally brings to the table, refer to her earlier blog on Jason Perez’s benefit show at the Depot District Obar. But as far as my report goes, I witnessed one-time only deal, and it was THE story of the night! - Michael Mora
