"Alexis Heath chats with TMI"

ALEXIS HEATH CHATS WITH TMI ABOUT HER NEW SINGLE “BREAKTHROUGH”
AINSLEY HUTTO | 27 May, 2020 at 06:10 190

Hey Alexis! Can you tell us what this song means to you?

I wrote this song about my experiences with social anxiety in Junior High. My freshman year I ended up going to a brand new school where I didn’t know anyone and it was really hard for me. “Breakthrough” is about battling my nerves and putting myself out there despite my fears. With May being Mental Health Awareness month, I hoped that with the song’s positive upbeat feel it can give hope to others who may struggle with their own anxiety in social situations.

How excited were you to finally get this song out into the world?

It felt so surreal to see myself on streaming platforms! I was a little nervous to put myself out there but the song is symbolic of me having a personal breakthrough and just going for it.

Will there be a music video for your new song?

We would have loved to do a video but with the current conditions with CoVID -19 it didn’t seem feasible right now. I hope as the world settles into a new normal to do a music video for one of my upcoming songs on my EP.

Where did your love of music come from?

That’s a good question. Honestly, I have no idea. Music was in me from day one. I started singing when I was just a toddler and ever since then I haven’t stopped. Music has been the only thing that I could always rely on. It’s my happy place.

Why do you think social media is so important for teen artists today?

Besides just hearing a song from an artist, I think social media can help people to know who the artist really is. Artists are able to share with supporters their personality, their quirks, the process of their music, their goals, etc. I think it helps them feel more connected to the artist.

How do you want your relationship to be with your fans?

I want to be just as supportive to my fans as they have been to me. I have been so grateful for everyone who has encouraged me to follow my dreams and I want to support others in reaching their dreams.

What social media platform do you use most to stay connected to your fans?

I’m kind of new to the social media game but I am currently on Instagram. It is great to see all the amazingly talented musicians and artists have a platform to share what they are doing and support each other and connect with their fans.

Do you have any other release plans for 2020?

Yes, I plan to release another single on July 4th called “Thunder” written by O/B/A (Madilyn Paige, Shahadi Wright Joseph, Jenn Blosil) and produced by Immpaac (Fifth Harmony, Shahadi Wright Joseph) . And there’s more music coming after that!

Do you have any last things you’d like to tell your supporters?

I can’t wait to share the rest of the music I have been working on. I appreciate all the support I’ve felt from my team- I never would have believed I could do this without their belief in me. I want to also shout out to my parents. They’ve made this all possible.☺ - Teen Music Insider

"Rising singer-songwriter Alexis Heath talks musical influences, most meaningful song and her new uplifting debut release ‘Breakthrough’"

With a strong vocal tone reminiscent of singers like Alessia Kara and Kelly Clarkson, Alexis Heath has already endeared herself to some very prominent members of the music community in Utah. Namely, Debra and Clotile Bonner Farkas (of the music group known as The Bonner Family). In fact, Debra Bonner was so impressed by the raw talent of Alexis Heath that she signed her former vocal student to a contract with her artist development company during April of 2020. This arrangement made Alexis Heath the first person ever to sign with SingPeopleSing Recordings.

What inspired you to begin a career in music?

I was blessed with an amazing opportunity to work with Nate Immpaac Jolley and O/B/A. I have always loved to sing and music has always been a passion of mine, but when it comes to having a career in music I just got incredibly lucky to be surrounded by people who wanted to support me doing what I love.

Your debut release ‘Breakthrough’ is out now. Can you please describe the creative process and explain the meaning behind the single?

This year I changed to a new junior high where I didn’t know anyone at all. For someone who has suffered from severe social anxiety their whole life, this was my worst nightmare. Think panic attacks, breakdowns and shaking uncontrollably in the hallways. Yeah, it was bad. I wrote the song ‘Breakthrough’ because I was trying to get over my fears. I was trying to make friends and get outside of my comfort zone for once. Although it is still tough for me, this year I certainly made some ‘breakthroughs’. Even though I still get really nervous sometimes I think everyday I keep trying is a small victory. My intentions for this song is that it can give hope to people who suffer like I do with the battles of anxiety.

Everyone experiences good days and bad days, as a musician, when you have a bad day, what motivates you to keep moving and look ahead to the future?

Music has always been there for me. On my bad days, I remember that music is the thing that usually gets me through the hard times. I want to be loyal to the art that is the source of so much of my happiness.

In your own opinion, what is the most meaningful song you wrote? What makes you say that one?

The song I relate to the most is my new song “Thunder” coming out July 4th. I am excited to see which of my songs my fans relate to the most emotionally as they are all unique.

Throughout your musical career, have you experienced any ‘wow’ moments? Those moments that you stop to reflect and can’t believe you are where you are?

I’ve come such a long ways since I first started music. I’d say the moments that have made the most impact on me is just me seeing myself progress in the studio. When I first started, I was so nervous that I might mess up and recording was a stressful experience, but as I had more exposure to recording, it turned into my happy place. I love the studio.

What personal advice would you give to someone wanting to pursue this career?

If it’s what you love, go for it. A career in music can be vulnerable and rather scary at times, but don’t be afraid of what other people think. You do you and people will follow.

What does the foreseeable future hold for you as an artist?

My team and I have decided to release my single “Thunder” on July 4th on all streaming platforms. I’m so excited to share with my music with the world.

Anything else you would like to add?

I just want to thank all my supporters for being so encouraging and positive with me. Furthermore, I would like to thank my family- I don’t know what I would do without you. And I also want to thank my team, for believing in me from the very start. - Niji Magazine

Bio

Alexis Heath (Bio)
By Miguel Costa -
When Alexis Heath was an 8-year-old vocalist, her girlhood dream of stardom began
to take shape on the local stage of her community theater. Since then, the
aspirations of this Utah native have come full circle as the 14-year-old is now the
latest protégé to work with O/B/A and his musical partner, Immpaac. The same duo
that co-wrote the hit song “Skin I’m In” for a film star named Shahadi Wright Joseph;
when she was the exact same age. Alexis Heath debuted her first ever single on May
15th (2020).  Music by Alexis Heath carries an uplifting undertone similar to songs like If
You Need Me (by Juilia Michaels) and Roar (by Katy Perry). The new EP from Alexis
Heath will be predominately comprised of Pop, R&B and Dance music.
“Breakthrough” is intended to serve as a precursor for the album’s lead single,
“Thunder.” The self-titled EP by Alexis Heath promises to be as captivating as it is
introspective.
With a strong vocal tone reminiscent of singers like Alessia Kara and Kelly Clarkson,
Alexis Heath has already endeared herself to some very prominent members of the
music community in Utah. Namely, Debra and Clotile Bonner (of the music group
known as The Bonner Family). In fact, Debra Bonner was so impressed by the raw
talent of Alexis Heath that she signed her former vocal student to a record deal with
her record label during April of 2020. This signing made Alexis Heath the first
person ever to land a recording contract with SingPeopleSing (Records).
As Alexis Heath continues to release music, she will showcase her rich vocal tone
and her stage presence. And with a new record label behind her, it may not be long
before her supportive community in Utah grows into a national fan base.
