"#letmeputyouon"

Samira Gibson embodies the message of “big things truly come in small packages.” She is a young yet acclaimed songstress who has had the pleasure of being a three time winner at the Apollo Theater and has worked with legends like Chaka Khan, Mary J. Blige and Elle Varner. When I had the pleasure of meeting her, I couldn’t get over her humbleness and warmth. For somebody with such notability, her personality is the most graceful, down to earth… and her voice is beautiful. With roots stemming from South Carolina and currently residing in New York City, Samira is well versed in the culture which exudes from each piece of work she delivers.

1. “REFLECTIONS OF MIRA” IS YOUR LATEST BODY OF WORK, AND THE TITLE SAYS A LOT. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED ABOUT YOURSELF ON YOUR JOURNEY THUS FAR? WHAT DOES “REFLECTIONS OF MIRA” MEAN TO YOU?

I came up with the title “Reflections Of Mira” based on a simple but crucial fact. Life is a journey and I will only get one of them. Therefore, I must be sure that I have a reflection that I can bare. Through my music I want to be able to reflect things that I’ve figured out on my journey to possibly help someone else get through that part of their journey. This project is about finding your way to a mental freedom by rising above obstacles in order to get to your ultimate level of self. Then reflecting your greatness on the world causing a counter reaction of the same cycle.

2. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT MESSAGE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO DELIVER TO YOUR AUDIENCE THROUGH YOUR WORK? WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO OPEN PEOPLE’S EYES TO? WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO THEM TAKE AWAY FROM ‘SAMIRA GIBSON’?

One of the most important things in life period is becoming aware.. aware of your capabilities. Becoming aware of the power you possess to change the world. To become aware of things that are holding you back from achieving what someone thought was impossible. I believe I come from greatness which means I am more than capable of producing it. This is what I wish to reflect of others through my “Mira.”
3. WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO IN YOUR CAREER AS A SINGER? DO YOU SEE YOURSELF VENTURING INTO OTHER AREAS OF WORK SUCH AS HUMANITARIANISM OR PHILANTHROPY?

As a professional artist of any field I think that it is safe to say we already sit with level of self consciousness. With that being said most of us innately have the presence of social responsibility. I can most definitely see myself being involved in both humanitarianism and philanthropy especially since my mission statement as an artist is bettering another through your reflection. I am extremely proud of the women empowerment movement that is taking place in this era. Currently females stand at 73% of entrepreneurs in America. I also have a very strong passion for the deaf community. As I grow in my journey I will continue to help others build as well. I am a firm believer that actions speak louder than words. So I can’t just sing about it, I have to be about it as my song “Revelation” strongly quotes. This is for the good of our future and generations to come.
4. WHICH OTHER ARTISTS WOULD YOU LOVE TO WORK WITH IN THE FUTURE? WHO ARE SOME OF THE ARTISTS THAT INSPIRE YOU?

Growing up I listened to so many artists. My mother would play records of Chaka Khan, Tina Marie, Alicia Myers, Luther Vandross and more. By the time I was old enough to write my own lyrics at the age of 12, I was heavily influenced by Lauryn Hill, Jill Scott, Alicia Keys, Mary J , Usher and more. When I feel like I’ve made my mark as they have in the industry, I definitely would love the opportunity to work with artist I admire such as Kendrick Lamar, Erykah Badu, Jidenna, Janelle Monae, J Cole, and Andre 3000. It would be a dream come true. - Jade

"#PWER Video Shoot"

On Episode 2 of Street Style I captured a beautiful woman named Samira Gibson walking down 125th street in Harlem. She caught my attention because her look was mysterious and unique. Once we started chatting she revealed that she’s a soul singer and as a bonus she asked me and my home girl, Rhysa, to be apart of her new music video PWER. Me being the constant supporter of all things black girl magical without hesitation I agreed. What you’re about to see are the ladies of Samira’s PWER music video shoot….and BABY let me tell you these ladies got that power!

This shot is the artist herself, Samira Gibson, after the video shoot was wrapped and she was on her off duty model look. Isn’t she lovely…make sure you check her out on IG @samira you will not be disappointed!

Now I’ve been telling everyone who’s willing to listen that I had the pleasure of taking pictures of a girl who I have deemed “Grace Jones”. Her actual name is Ngozi Nzei and she’s so beautiful all I could say was yaaaasss…fuck it up biiisshhhhh!!! Ngozi has freshly graduated from Parsons School of Design with not one, not two, but three degrees in Fashion Design, International Broadcasting, and Journalism. Go congratulate Grace (oops, I mean) Ngozi on IG @ngozi.nzei

Her face was beat for the Gods, her military vest had us all wanting to run to the closest Army/Navy store for some “don’t fuck with me” accessories, her walk is mean, and she’s super sweet. Aneesa reps “Brick City” aka Newark, NJ while giving homage to her African roots. If you want to see more of Aneesa’s work check out her work on IG @af_ali01 her work is FIRE!

Tiana Santos was another one that came all the way from Brick City to grace us with her gorgeousness on set. Tiana is an educator, model, and actor. She had to run to Brooklyn straight after the PWER shoot ended for another acting audition. She’s a busy lady making her way through the challenges of the entertainment industry. You can find her on Facebook at Tiana Marie.

Yolanda Pinckney is an adorable young woman but don’t let the pretty face fool you. She’s a pageant contestant, paralegal, and a bad ass member of the National Guard. Yolanda can be found on IG @yollie417 - Salute.Life

"SAMIRA GIBSON IS THE DEFINTION OF #PWER"

You have worked with artists such as Elle Varner, Chaka Khan, and Mary J. Blige. What were those experiences like and what did you learn from them?

SAMIRA: “I’m so blessed to have had the opportunity to work with legends in the industry. I was very young when I sang backup for Chaka and Mary and I wish I would have asked more questions pertaining to the music industry, such as the business, pressures, expectation etc. However, they taught me a lot by observation. Watching these icons go from rehearsal to the stage was a real treat. I watched the dynamic, energy level, precision, focus, and fun they bought to their crafts. I try to get something from every experience and apply it to life. “ - Oprah Zip Bradford
