"48 UNDER’S “MARIGOLD” IS READY TO BLOOM"

Touted by the group as “the greatest album to ever come out of a particular Elmhurst, Illinois bedroom,” The Village features classic R&B progressions and rhythms given new life by sharp jazz guitar licks and soothing vocals.

The album’s most popular single, “Marigold,” won the group second place in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and was featured on Vocalo’s March “In Rotation” playlist. One listen to this track confirms why; the song lures you in with smooth steady drums and singer Chandra Gangavarapu’s confident vocals. Suddenly, the band mixes in dizzying jazz hiccups like a musical trust fall, satisfyingly landing back on the groove after throwing you off of it. - Vocalo Radio 91.1FM

Bio

Looking back from winning 2nd place in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest... The story of 48 Under starts in the crammed high school dorm room of TJ Ptak and Ian Fowler. The two were drawn to each other because of their passions for music and decided to room together the next year. After turning their standard dorm room into a makeshift recording studio (as one does), it was the place to be. The two spent their high school years shedding and working on their craft. That next summer, it was their time to show it to the world.

That summer, TJ set off to write an album - something he had wanted to do all his life. That's how the roommate Ian Fowler, peer Chandra Gangavarapu, and longtime friends Mason Lampa and Jimmy Sacharski joined TJ to record the greatest album to ever come out of a particular Elmhurst, Illinois bedroom: The Village by 48 Under.

Influenced by R&B, Classic Rock, Jazz, and Soul, TJ's writing style pulls from his broad taste in music. He believes that the best and most authentic music is created by ignoring the boundaries of genre. In his work, you can hear the voices of Erykah Badu, Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix, Wes Montgomery, and countless others. This young band is at its beginning but is surely destined for great things.
